Schools Visits Policy
Our aim is to provide a safe interactive experience for visitors of all ages and abilities.
We advise all teachers/group leaders to make a preliminary visit in order to familiarise themselves with the venue and the farm policies.
Visitors will be supervised at all times and for larger groups may be split into smaller groups depending on the activity/topic and weather. A member of staff will accompany each group. A responsible member of the visiting group’s staff must accompany each group too. A briefing will be given to all groups on arrival, on the guidelines of good behaviour to be safe on the farm to and the best hand washing procedure, to ensure an enjoyable visit.
Hands on activities are included and the member of our staff will ensure that all members of the group are directed to the hand washing facilities in the visitor’s room. Good hand washing procedure will be discussed at the beginning of the visit with the group and reinforced at the end. Footwear must be disinfected by washing off excess mud/faeces and then walking on the disinfectant sponge next to the visitor’s room. This must be done before the final hand wash to avoid recontamination of clean hands.
School staff/group leaders will be responsible for ensuring that all members of the group adhere to the health and safety policy and follow instructions from the member of the farm staff.
The nature trail is approx 1.5 miles long, including passing the pond, where the rules must be strictly adhered to also. A member of staff will always accompany the group there too. Signs are around the walk to guide people on the route.
Child Protection Policy
When undertaking a farm visit, we have a policy of not being in sole supervision of individuals or groups. Whilst at the farm we ask that the children are accompanied by a responsible adult at all times, with the appropriate ratios of adults to children according to age as per AIS23 (teacher’s advice sheet/HSE sheet)
