On our farm we have crops, livestock, and machinery, all of which can be seen and handled throughout the year.
Each season is different, so choosing what time of year you visit will depend to some extent what you want to see or do. We try to make as much “hands on” as possible, and an experience you’ll remember and want to try again.
We have suckler cows here. They calve in the autumn, so the calves are small and pretty from September to December, although the weather isn’t as good.
You may see a calf born, or watch the video I made earlier in the week! Look out for the bull too. He’s called Roger.
We have a small flock of 50 sheep. They lamb around Easter. So that’s a good time to visit if you want to see new born lambs and have the chance to hold one or two.
We have free range chickens, ducks and geese that roam around the farm. Hopefully there will be some ducklings and chicks to see and hold too. We can collect the freshly laid eggs from the hen hut and scatter some corn for them.
There are fields full of different crops to see and ask about. We grow wheat, sugar beet, oilseed rape, grass and potatoes here. Find out where your food comes from. Watch out for the wildlife that lives in the crops. Look out for the owl boxes too.
There is a full range of farm machinery here to see and you may be lucky enough to be able to sit on a tractor. See how the land is prepared and how the seeds are planted and harvested.
